News / Members' pageThis is your page where your news, photos, articles for sale, jokes or anything legitimate (ie non-political, non-commercial and must be related to rambling, however vague the connection may be!) can be posted.AGM 2011The draft minutes of the last AGM held on 6 November 2011 are now available for comment. Any feedback should be sent to the Secretary.
Footpath MaintenanceWe all know that there are budgetary constraints, and although we continue to report to the Council problems such as broken stiles or rotten footbridges, some of these jobs wait for years before they get done. If we have a few members who have the appropriate skills, and someone to coordinate our efforts, perhaps we can take on some of these repair jobs ourselves. The Council would be prepared to supply the materials and lend some tools, and we can be covered by their insurance policy while we work on their behalf. If you think you might be able to help with this work speak to me or to Brian Baldwin. Brian has a book about path maintenance that we recently received from Central Office, and you might find it interesting. The Ramblers Walking Environment Team is planning a practical planning work day in Kettering on 25th August. If you are interested, let me know and I will pass on some information about it.

(Discounts & offers are wholly at the discretion of the retailer and are not an entitlement to RA members) Walks for AllIn the Milton Keynes and District Group we aim to put on a good variety of walks of different lengths, in areas both close to Milton Keynes and further afield, and at times to suit the majority. It would not be possible to do this without our walk leaders who put in a lot of work voluntarily in their own time to plan, organise and lead walks. Our programme secretary also works hard to collate all the walk details into a workable programme of walks. Most of our walk leaders prefer longer walks and we are desperately in need of more people to come forward and lead shorter walks (approx 3 - 6 miles). In the summer , we have short evening walks on the programme, but it is difficult to find enough people willing to lead them. The evening walks often attract large numbers of participants. Who wants to lead a walk?We are always looking out for volunteers to lead walks and are fortunate in having a core group of people who regularly come forward as leaders. However, there's always room for more. If you've never led a walk before it may seem a bit daunting, but with good planning beforehand everything should be easier on the day. The Ramblers Association gives guidelines for walk leaders on their website in the walking information section. This covers planning, reconnoitering your route, what details you should provide beforehand and how to cope on the day. If you feel you could lead a walk, or would like to help but are not sure how to go about it, please speak to Philip or any of our walk leaders who would be happy to help and may offer to co-lead a walk with you which helps build confidence. For more detailed information please see the walk leaders' page.
