News / Members' pageThis is your page where your news, photos, articles for sale, jokes or anything legitimate (ie non-political, non-commercial and must be related to rambling, however vague the connection may be!) can be posted.High Speed Rail LinkWe have been informed by Area, that a sponsored walk is being held on behalf of the Chiltern Society on 11 September from Amersham to Great Missenden to raise awareness of the environmental impact of the HS2 proposal and to generate contributions for a fighting fund to oppose the project. We understand the Chiltern Society opposes not just the current preferred route but any route that would affect the Chilterns AONB on legal, financial, environmental and geological grounds. Though the Society has relevant expertise in its own membership, it also foresees a need to use external expert witnesses: hence the need for a fight fund. It is thought by Area, that Groups may care to publicise the event among their membership so that they can participate, sponsor other participants (or just donate to the fund). View/print the sponsorship form. If you would like further information, please contact Jim Rodda of the Chiltern Society: jrodda@ukf.net Area is also holding a walk which will look at the impact on footpaths of another part of the HS2 preferred route on either side of Wendover, this combines a celebration of the Ramblers' 75 anniversary and will be held on 13 November. It would not be possible to do this without our walk leaders who put in a lot of work voluntarily in their own time to plan, organise and lead walks. Our programme secretary also works hard to collate all the walk details into a workable programme of walks. Most of our walk leaders prefer longer walks and we are desperately in need of more people to come forward and lead shorter walks (approx 3 - 6 miles). In the summer , we have short evening walks on the programme, but it is difficult to find enough people willing to lead them. The evening walks often attract large numbers of participants. Who wants to lead a walk?We are always looking out for volunteers to lead walks and are fortunate in having a core group of people who regularly come forward as leaders. However, there's always room for more. If you've never led a walk before it may seem a bit daunting, but with good planning beforehand everything should be easier on the day. The Ramblers' Association gives guidelines for walk leaders on their website in the walking information section. This covers planning, reconnoitering your route, what details you should provide beforehand and how to cope on the day. If you feel you could lead a walk, or would like to help but are not sure how to go about it, please speak to Ian or any of our walk leaders who would be happy to help and may offer to co-lead a walk with you which helps build confidence. For more detailed information please see the walk leaders' page.
